Space and Global Health Network 2024
The Space and Global Health (SGH) Network, coordinated by the Geneva Digital Health Hub at the University of Geneva, released its 2024 Annual Report — a milestone year for an initiative born from a UN General Assembly resolution and now counting 175 members across governments, international organizations, academia, and civil society.
In 2024, the Network focused on three strategic priorities: raising awareness, building capacity, and strengthening global collaboration. Key highlights include a dedicated Space and Global Health track at the Geneva Digital Health Day alongside the World Health Assembly, a hackathon co-organized with ESA that brought together 125 participants over 36 hours of intensive collaboration, and active participation at the International Astronautical Congress in Milan.
The year also saw the creation of a transdisciplinary taskforce to develop the first-ever Space and Global Health Curriculum — an open, multilingual educational programme targeting policymakers and graduate students, with five initial use cases spanning access to clean water, vector-borne disease tracking, telehealth, remote sensing, and environmental health monitoring.
A long-term strategy for 2025–2035 was also presented, setting the direction for the Network's future work at the intersection of space technology and human health.
